Bangkok – What To Do and Visit

Bangkok is a huge, modern city, full of flavors that seem to catch life at night. We have fallen in love from the first days with this city, which probably has much more to offer than we’re able to do. We will definitely visit again.

Grand Palace + Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Two of Bangkok’s most famous tourist attractions, located right in the city center, within the same complex. You basically hit two birds with the same ticket. Grand Palace is made up of several buildings with different architecture and styles. The main building looks exactly like a fairytale palace. Nowadays it is only used for ceremonies, and in the past, it was the king’s house and the place from where the country was governed.

The Emerald Buddha Temple or Wat Prakeaw contains a Buddha sculpture made of a single piece of emerald. The entire temple complex is spectacular and from our point of view, it is worth the entrance fee only for this temple.
Beware of people trying to sell you other services, saying the palace is closed.
Appropriate clothing: it is forbidden to enter the complex with knees, shoulders, and ankles uncovered.

Wat Pho – Reclining Buddha

It is impossible to get to Bangkok and not want to see the lying Buddha statue. It is located in Wat Pho and has a height of 15 meters and a length of 46 mentors, and it is covered entirely in gold foil. Although the Buddha statue is the main attraction, the entire complex is fascinating. A garden decorated with stone sculptures and stupas decorated with porcelain.

Wat Arun – Temple of the Dawn

Built-in the 19th century in Khmer style, this temple is definitely one of Bangkok’s most spectacular temples. The domes of this temple are embellished with porcelain and coloured glass in a floral pattern that is even more beautiful due to the white background.
The easiest way to get to it is by water taxi.

The Golden Mount (Wat Saket)

This temple is not as cute as the ones listed above but has a special charm. What’s totally different about it, is that on your way to the top of the dome/mountain, you pass through a small tropical forest decorated with fun statues. And once you arrive at the top, you are welcomed by a wonderful sight. We believe it is the ideal place to admire the sunset and the Bangkok skyline.

Ride the Sky Train

The easiest way to cross the city is by train (Sky Train). Not only will you get away from the traffic underneath, but you will also have air conditioning and you will be able to admire the city. There are stations almost everywhere so you can not travel more easily than that.

Take a water taxi

Crossed by Chai Phraya River and lined with small water channels, Bangkok is also called “Venice of the East”. Travelling these canals is one of the ways to avoid the packed city, that many locals choose the ferries to go to work. A boat tour is the main attraction that locals will try to sell, overpriced, so be sure to choose water taxis.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

One of the largest markets in the world, Chatuchak Weekend Market, is open only Saturdays and Sundays and has over 8000 stands. A real labyrinth where you can find everything you can imagine, and at low prices, not prices for tourists.

Experience Bangkok’s many shopping malls

Bangkok is a true paradise for shopping lovers. You will find a mall near the mall next to the mall. And they are all huge. There is a mall for each pocket. We just walked through two of them, and we lost a few hours. I understand why shopping is considered a sport. Next time we visit Bangkok we will return home with extra luggage.

Giant Swing

One of Bangkok’s attractions is a giant swing, which is near Wat Suthat (Hindu Temple). It is a religious structure that was used in the past in a ceremony, which was interrupted in 1935 after a few people died. (people were swinging and trying to catch a bag with gold coins at 25 m height)

Have a Thai Massage

You surely heard about Thai massage. And where it can be better than in its home country. There are salons absolutely everywhere, but do your research to find one that offers you a quality experience.

Take a walk through Lumpini Park

A drop of nature in a concrete jungle. If you feel the need for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, Lumpini Park is the perfect place. If you are lucky you can see one of the dragons (reptiles) living in the lakes of the park.

Be a child for an hour – Unicorn Cafe –  Bangkok

Yes! A café full of unicorns and rainbows!
We really wanted to try it and it was really fun, and it has delicious food. That’s why we decided to mention it. If you want, you can even rent unicorn suits and be in unison with all the atmosphere. And what’s even more fun… inside were just adults.

Eat Street Food in Bangkok

A famous country for food because you can find it at any corner of the street. Where there is a crowded street there, you will find at least one food stall. Prices are incredibly small (because there is where the locals eat) and the food is incredibly good. From Pad Thai, salad, fish, sausages, all are cooked in front of you. We have only eaten from these sellers while we stayed in Bangkok and we have not found anything that we do not like.

Khao San Road

This is a place full of tourists. It is the area with the cheapest accommodation, but also with many bars, restaurants and street food, that really gets full of life after the sunset.

Try Durian

Known as the King of Fruits, Durian is a very controversial fruit. Either you like it, or you hate it, but you will surely feel the smell before you see it. Its smell is so special that it is forbidden in all means of transport and enclosed spaces. The outside looks like a medieval weapon, but the taste and texture of the fruit have not convinced us, but maybe you will love it.

Ear some Bugs

A delight (?) that you can find in this city, especially on Khao San Road, are fried insects. Cezar liked them and said that next time he would try some alive ones. So if you’re curious about their taste now you know where you can find them.
