Brasov – Spring City Break

Brasov – the city at the foot of the mountain

Why wait for the summer to go on vacation? Spring can be the perfect season for some destinations for two reasons: prices are lower and the tourist attractions will not be so crowded.

Brasov is probably the most famous destination in Romania, for both Romanians and tourists. This is also due to the fact that the small town of Bran, where the Bran Castle is found, known especially for the legend of Count Dracula, is located only 30-40 min away.

We arrived in Brasov last year for the 10 Km Cross at which Cezar participated, and took advantage of this opportunity to visit the city.

In order to get there, we chose the Rucar-Bran route because we wanted to catch a  glorious sunset:

To see

Brasov is a quiet city, good for a relaxing weekend, and the beautiful landscapes and streets surrounded by Saxon houses only contribute to this atmosphere.

You can spend a few hours strolling through the old city center, always discovering a street that is more photogenic than the one before.

Between Poarta Schei Street and Cerbu Street, you will find the third narrowest street in Europe, Rope Street or Strada Sforii. Its purpose was to facilitate the firemen’s access and is 80 meters long and between 1.11 and 1.35 meters in width.

To get a glimpse of the city, you can choose one of the following advantage points or why not all three: the White Tower, the Black Tower and the viewpoint on the Tampa Mountain Plateau.

Whichever point you will choose, you will enjoy a splendid view over the old city center. What you will immediately love is the reddish roofs, specific to the East European architecture.

The Council Market or Piata Sfatului is the ideal place to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, admire some of the Saxon architecture, and what we like the most, people watching.

To eat

As in any other city in Romania, when it comes to dining, you can choose between restaurants with traditional Romanian food and restaurants that offer you more western dishes (pizza, burgers, pasta, etc.)

But nothing compares with breakfast at a restaurant in the center of Brasov, in Piata Sfatului. And who says you can not have a pizza for breakfast? With such a view you will eat anything to stay more.

For dessert, we chose some donuts from GlazeHaze. Some, not just one, because they looked too good and we could not decide, and the taste did not disappoint us.

What other tourist destinations did you visit in Brasov?
