Turda Gorges & Cluj-Napoca

The fourth day debuted at the same pace as the previous one, this time taking us to the Turda Gorges. After an easy drive of about 30 minutes, we arrived at a parking lot where the trail begins. Near the parking lot, there were 2 terraces offering food, but as we arrived too early and they weren’t opened, so we couldn’t enjoy a little breakfast in nature. 😄

Turzii Gorges

Turzii Gorges have a length of 1.3 km and the walls reach a height of 200 m, It is the perfect place for a hike. The path to begin easily through the woods, then we have encountered rock walls. But by far the most thrilling part of the whole trip has happened right here when a snake thought to pass right under my feet.

Cluj-Napoca

After a 2-hour walk through the middle of nature and the emotions created by a small creature, we headed to Cluj. We drove a little around the city to find a parking space, and because we are a lit bit too comfortable, we parked in the center and the parking fee was a little bit spicy, and then we started exploring.

The old city center consists of three squares of which we walked only through Unirii Square and Avram Iancu Square. Unirii Square is home to the Matei Corvin Monument and St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church – which impresses by its size and architecture, while in Avram Iancu Square we admired the Statue of Avram Iancu, Lucian Blaga National Theater.

The city center differs from the rest of the city through the colorful, life-full buildings of the 17th-20th centuries.

Overcome by the hot weather (40°C) we went to a cool in a shady place (we had no bathing suits with us so that we could cool down properly) – Botanical Garden Cluj-Napoca.

The Botanical Garden is just 10-15 minutes’ walk from the Old Town. And once we got here, we spent some good hours among flowers, trees, lakes, and rivulets. We enjoyed a small Japanese garden (an islet in the middle of an artificial lake, bounded by a curved bridge and another stone one, and all the charm is that everything is built in the traditional Japanese style), fresh air, silence, the voice of the birds and the view we had over the garden from a former water tower.

To eat

Of course, there can’t be a city center without cafes, restaurants, and shops at every turn. But what we found in Cluj was a lot of start-ups, new ideas, diversified and delicious restaurants that we have not seen anywhere else in Romania.

Surely you can find something to satisfy your appetite. We found a small place where they were selling only soups (SupeR), delicious burgers (Burger House Steak & More) and a perfect 2 Lei ice-cream to cool ourselves for a while. 😂

And we ended our day admiring the sunset and a part of Cluj-Napoca from the Iulius Mall terrace and eating Taco (we are very romantic 😂).
