Jordan

A perfect day at the Dead Sea – Jordan

Of the Dead Sea, most of us have heard and know something about it. The most important thing is that you float in it, without swimming. Here are some facts we found interesting about the Dead Sea:

  • The Dead Sea is 430.5 meters below sea level, making it the lowest point on earth!
  • Water is about 10 times saltier than ocean water, so be careful not to get into your mouth or eyes!
  • Although it is called Sea, it is actually a hypersaline lake.
  • The mud from the bottom of the Dead Sea is also excellent for the skin.

Now that we know something about the Dead Sea, let’s tell you what to expect when you get there.

Public beach or Resort at the Dead Sea?

Being one of Jordan’s major natural highlights, you can expect many tourists. And where there are tourists there are hotels and resorts. If you want to “swim” in the Dead Sea you will have to choose between enjoying the facilities of a resort (swimming pool, shower, parking, towels, etc.) or go to a public beach (few at number). We chose to enjoy the comfort brought by the resort (The Dead Sea Spa Hotel). So not to complicate us with the public beach where you had to pay for everything individually, especially because the price difference isn’t that big.

Location info

As I said above, the Dead Sea is 430.5 m below sea level and can be visited from the territory of three countries: Jordan, Israel and Palestine. As we could not visit each country to make a comparison between them, we will tell you about the Jordanian shore. For Jordan, the Dead Sea is found in the western part of the country and is easy to get there.

How to get to the Dead Sea

Having a rented car we chose to drive to the Dead Sea. And we arrived very easily and quickly from Amman. After you reach the tourist area for the Dead Sea you will drive with the sea on the right side until you reach the destination. As our destination was The Dead Sea Spa Hotel, we did not continue on the road that was winding near the Dead Sea. To get from Amman to The Dead Sea Spa Hotel you do not need more than 45 minutes. Or in case you want to come directly from the airport, you will drive for at least an hour.

Our experience

When we made the visit plan for Jordan, we chose to go to the Dead Sea on the last day. So we could charge our batteries after a week of walking. And we decided well…

Then we had to decide whether to go to a public beach or resort, and we finally chose The Dead Sea Spa Hotel. We chose this hotel because it is the first hotel built on the Dead Sea and it looks great. And only 20 JOD fee for entrance.

So after we set up everything we needed, we showed up at the hotel at 9 in the morning (at the opening) to take advantage of the sun. Being a day in July, temperatures of 40 degrees were expected. So waking up early was necessary :D.

Once we reached the pools we had to take our towels (3 JOD / piece and some JOD as a guarantee). Yes, there are 5 pools throughout the resort. But you only have access to 4 of them (there is also an exclusive pool for adults and children). One is reserved for tourists staying in the hotel (or at least we think so).

Floating in the Dead Sea

How is the Dead Sea?

The first thing we did was go directly to the beach of the hotel that had access to the Dead Sea. After all, that’s why we were there. And yes, we stayed at sea for 2 hours. We would have stayed more if the sun didn’t start to fry us.

The first sensation is among the most interesting you can have. You get in the water and instead of sinking, you start floating without any effort. We quickly realized how to balance in the water. Especially since you are not allowed to move your hands aggressively. And is advisable to float on your back, not on your belly. The water having such a high concentration of salt, if it gets into your mouth or eyes you will have quite big problems. When you go to the Dead Sea to keep in mind and that it is not advisable to wax a few hours beforehand and not have open wounds because they will sting very, very hard.

Being a private beach we had the area to which we could swim delimitated. And on this occasion, we encountered another very strange sensation, when I reached this water boarder. The floating fence was anchored by the bottom of the sea and the sea is clear. We could see that cable that goes down into the sea and gets lost after a few tens of meters deep and you are on the surface, floating….

On the beach, (when we say the beach does not expect fine sand.) we also had a container of mud extracted from the Dead Sea. So we muded ourselves well and then waited for it to dry. Then we went into the water and take it down. And our skin felt so soft after, amazing.

Mud from the bottom of the Dead Sea

The lunch

At lunch, we retreated on the sunbeds, under the umbrellas, by the pool. If you arrive in July at the Dead Sea you would expect that at noon you would have to retire in the shade. Here we relaxed for a few hours. Especially since you also had a bar right next to us, where we could grab some drinks to cool off.

After such an eventful morning we also needed food (especially me :D). And when it comes to food, we had from where to choose.

Let us tell you about Crystal Restaurant from The Dead Sea Spa Hotel.

As we entered we were excited that this restaurant would offer us a delicious meal and because the temperature was much lower than outside. (we felt like in an oasis).

What to tell you about the food … it was very very good and diverse. Being very curious (especially when it comes to food), we tried everything. 😀 Below some “evidence”.

However, if you worry about whether or not you will have where to eat, stay calm. You have where to eat and not any food, a super good one and in a location of note 10. Everything was impeccable, from the service to the arrangements or cleanliness, everything to the highest standards.

Why to choose this location

We have explained a little of our experience at The Dead Sea Spa Hotel above and although it seems we are slightly impressionable, believe us, we are not. But here we found a very good attitude of the staff, neat and well-maintained places, good food and everything you need for a day or more of relaxation.

We could have stayed here for a week without getting bored. (because of how much this hotel has to offer, and how good it looks.) It could be a welcomed resting vacation. To stay here for a week and enjoy the peace of mind and charge your batteries.

Besides what I narrated above, the hotel also has a spa, one of the best medical centers for the treatment and improvement of the skin in Jordan, conference rooms, fitness room, etc. So for a week (or a few days), you can easily spend them here, depending on how much you want to sit on the sunbeds or float in the sea.
