5 Picturesque places – Bulgarian Black Sea coast

Because the weather finally decided it was time for the summer to make its presence felt and because there is no summer without sitting on the sand, put on a layer of natural bronze and swimming between the cold waves of the sea, we decided to tell you about some of the places you could visit on the Black Sea littoral. More specifically, the Bulgarian coast.

What to visit – Bulgarian coast

If you are looking for picturesque locations, where time felt like it stopped for a bit, surely one of the destinations below will be your favorite:

Tyulenovo Bay and Cliffs

The first thing that catches your eye when you get here are the boats anchored in the small harbor of the bay, seemingly eager for the next adventure between the waves of the sea. To get to the most spectacular view here you have to go to the right of the bay and walk for about 5 minutes.

It is impossible not to have a smile on your face and don’t want to stay here indefinitely to hear the waves as they strike by this miracle of nature.

Bolata Bay

Natural reservation and the perfect place for a romantic escape. We could easily lose some hours on that fine sand. Bolata Bay immediately captures your heart, and the rocky and reddish rocks contrast perfectly with the blue of the sea.

Kaliakra Cape and Fortress

The piece of land on which the fortress is located pierce the sea with rocks that rise up to 70 meters above the sea. Only the gateway and a few other ruins are still standing in this and they seem to be from a story with princes and princesses. But by far the most spectacular place is the end of this small peninsula, where all that remains to be seen is the stretch of unbounded water of an incredible blue that is always changing.

Visit fee: 3 leva/person.

Balcik

By far the most famous tourist attraction of the city is the Balcik Castle. It bears the name “castle” because it was the favorite place of the Queen Maria of Romania.

What will you see by visiting this place? The castle – a small and chic villa, a botanical garden, a monastery, a waterfall, a cellar, a garden with sweet roses and much more (be careful not to miss the wine and sweets tastings).

Visit fee: 8 leva for the botanical garden + 6 leva for the castle (both fees must be paid in order to enter)

Nessebar

This city-fortress is on a small island just 850 m long and 350 m wide on the Bulgarian coast. And it makes you feel like you’ve gone back in the past with hundreds of years.

Stone houses with wooden floors and typical of Bulgarian and Greek fishermen and give the city a unique atmosphere. Cafes and restaurants with views of the sea reveal the romantic side of the city.

Other places we did not visit but maybe you want too: Yailata, Shumen Soldier’s Monument, Ottoman Fortress Medjid Tabia

To sleep

In Balchik, we stayed at “Family Hotel Magnolia”. And we believe that value for money was excellent. Large, clean room, balcony with sea view and a very warm staff. We don’t think you can ask for more. Perhaps the location would be the only downside, as it is at the edge of the tourist area, right at the beginning of the seafront. But we did stay here only one night, and walking is healthy, so it was perfect. (Get up to €25 in credit when you join Airbnb)

To eat

Visiting Bulgarian seaside, it’s normal not to have a menu without at least 20 dishes of fish or seafood. It was a real challenge to find something traditional Bulgarian not to be with fish, but we succeeded. 😊

What kind of dishes can you expect? Mussels of all kinds and shapes, fish, shrimp, roe, and not only.

Stews with vegetables or meat with vegetables and Fresh or baked vegetable salad, such as:

Our favorite, and you must also try it if you have the opportunity, was the dessert: streaked yogurt with fig jam. Strained yogurt with fig jam

Whether you decide to visit all locations in three days (as we did) or add a few more days of staying on the beach we are sure you would be pleasantly surprised.
