We opted for e-visa for Sri Lanka because we weren’t sure if we could or couldn’t get a visa when you arrive.
The process of obtaining online visas is very simple and very fast. Fill in a fairly simple and straightforward questionnaire, much easier than in India, for example. You only need to fill in your personal data, the ticket of leaving the country and accommodation. But although there is little data, you have to be very careful when you fill them in and don’t hurry up. Because if you/they found a mistake after you paid, you have to pay the visa again. But with all the checks done, it will not take you more than 10 minutes to finish the application.
Visa Payment is made immediately after completing the form and costs $ 35 (€ 30) for a visa for 30 days with a single entry.
UPDATE: For a period of 6 months, starting with August 1, 2019, Sri Lanka exempts from the visa fee citizens of 48 countries. Attention! The visa still needs to be obtained, but you will no longer pay the $35 fee.
The 48 countries include: countries of the European Union, Thailand, US, Australia, South Korea, Canada, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, Switzerland, Cambodia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Russia and others.
You will receive the visa confirmation by email. In our case, it came very quickly, less than an hour after application. Although you get the confirmation quickly, it’s best not to leave it on the last minute. In case the confirmation gets delayed and you will not be able to make the flight or enter the country.
Normally on the flight to Sri Lanka, you will receive a form that you need to fill in. This form you can also find it in the airport, before immigration counters (in case you don’t get it on the plane).
Although many people had the visa confirmation printed, we didn’t have it and we had no problem. (so I guess you don’t need to print it).
Passport scanning and all the process lasted less than 2 minutes, and at the end, we had a new stamp on our passports. 😀
