The Aran Islands are located just off Galway and Doolin on the west coast of Ireland.
We came here on the recommendation of an acquaintance and was the most relaxing experience we had in the short period of about 24 hours.
To get to Inis Mór Island (Inishmore) we took the ferry from Rossaveel, a journey that lasted no more than an hour. It was our first experience on a ferry, we have been on a barge several times on the Danube, but the experience can not be compared. The force of the waves hit us as we got out of the bay and sailed into the turbulent ocean. We had to hold the railing well in order not to lose our balance. This experience was a memorable one, especially when the ferry crossed over a wave and then fall, a real roller coaster.
Accommodation
Once on the island we checked in (after half an hour of searching) at a B & B with a view of the small port on the island.
With the housing settled and the luggage left in the room I went to explore the island on the bike (which I rented from one of the shops near the port).
To see
These are places that we saw in our little journey on two wheels, some of them managed to leave us stunned and could pronounce only the word “WOW”:
Also, the impressive Fort Dun Aonghasa, located more than 90 meters above the ocean that is a World Heritage Site.
And deserted beaches:
To eat
We enjoyed dinner at Joe Watty’s Bar and Restaurant and we chose to try the traditional food. Therefore we had a seafood soup (Creamy Seafood Chowder), the traditional fish and chips with fish that was fished that morning and also a chocolate brownie with cream.
